How to Count Sefirat HaOmer

Sefirat HaOmer (Counting of the Omer) is a biblical commandment to count the 49 days between Passover and Shavuot. This period represents spiritual preparation and character refinement leading up to receiving the Torah.

  • When: Recited every night after nightfall (approx. 30-40 minutes after sunset).
  • Posture: It is traditional to stand while reciting the blessing and counting.
  • Attention: If you miss a night completely, you may continue counting on subsequent nights, but without reciting the opening blessing.
  • Sephira: Each day corresponds to a unique combination of divine emanations, focusing our mindfulness for that day.
