By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat and also wept when we remembered Zion. Upon the willows in its midst we hung our harps. For there our captors asked us for words of song, and our tormentors asked for mirth: "Sing for us from the song of Zion." How can we sing the song of the Lord on alien soil? If I forget you, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget its skill. Let my tongue adhere to my palate if I do not remember you, if I do not elevate Jerusalem above my foremost joy. Remember, O Lord, against the Edomites the day of Jerusalem, who said, "Raze it, raze it, to its very foundation." O daughter of Babylon, you who are to be destroyed, happy is he who repays you for what you have done to us. Happy is he who seizes and dashes your infants against the rock.

A song of ascents. When the Lord returns the exiles of Zion, we will be like dreamers. Then our mouths will be filled with laughter, and our tongues with joyous song. Then they will say among the nations, "The Lord has done great things for them." The Lord has done great things for us; we are joyful. Return our exiles, O Lord, like streams in the dry land. Those who sow in tears will reap in joy. He who goes along weeping, carrying the seed bag, will surely come back with songs of joy, carrying his sheaves.

In the days of Matityahu, the son of Yochanan, the High Priest, the Hasmonean, and his sons - when the wicked Greek kingdom rose up against Your people Israel to make them forget Your Torah and compel them to stray from the statutes of Your Will - You in Your great mercy stood up for them in the time of their distress. You took up their grievance, judged their claim, and avenged their wrong. You delivered the strong into the hands of the weak, the many into the hands of the few, the impure into the hands of the pure, the wicked into the hands of the righteous, and the arrogant into the hands of those engaged in Your Torah. For Yourself You made a great and holy Name in Your world, and for Your people Israel You performed a great deliverance and redemption as of this very day. Thereafter, Your children came to the Holy of Holies of Your House, cleansed Your Temple, purified the site of Your Holiness, and kindled lights in the courtyards of Your Sanctuary; and they established these eight days of Chanukah to express thanks and praise to Your great Name.

In the days of Mordechai and Esther, in Shushan the capital, when the wicked Haman rose up against them, and sought to destroy, massacre, and exterminate all the Jews, young and old, infants and women, on a single day, on the thirteenth of the twelfth month, the month of Adar, and to plunder their possessions. But You, in Your abundant mercy, thwarted his counsel, frustrated his intention, and brought his evil plan upon his own head, and they hanged him and his sons on the tree. And You performed miracles and wonders for them, and we will forever thank Your great Name.

Be pleased, Lord our God, to fortify us with Your commandments and with the commandment of the seventh day, this great and holy Shabbat. For this day is great and holy before You, to refrain from work and to rest upon it in love, in accordance with the commandment of Your Will. In Your Will, grant us rest, Lord our God, that there be no distress, grief, or sighing on the day of our rest. And show us, Lord our God, the consolation of Zion Your city, and the rebuilding of Jerusalem Your holy city, for You are the Master of salvations and the Master of consolations.

He who makes peace in His heights, may He make peace upon us and upon all Israel; and say, Amen.
Fear the Lord, you His holy ones, for there is no deprivation for those who fear Him. Young lions may be in want and go hungry, but those who seek the Lord will not lack any good. Give thanks to the Lord for He is good, for His kindness is everlasting. You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing. Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and the Lord will be his trust. I was a youth and also have aged, and I have not seen a righteous man forsaken, with his children begging for bread. The Lord will give strength to His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace.

The Merciful One, may He bless the master of the covenant of circumcision (the Sandek), who rejoiced to perform the righteous act with joy; may He repay his deed and double his reward, and elevate him higher and higher. Amen.

The Merciful One, may He bless the one who circumcises the flesh of the foreskin, uncovers and draws out the blood of circumcision; a man who is fearful and faint-hearted, his service is invalid if he does not perform these three [steps]. Amen.
The Merciful One, may He send us His Messiah who walks in perfection, in the merit of the bridegroom of the blood of circumcision, to herald good tidings and consolations to the one nation scattered and dispersed among the nations. Amen.
The Merciful One, may He send us the righteous Priest who was taken into hiding (Elijah), until his throne is established like the sun and diamond, who wrapped his face in his mantle and rolled it up; "My covenant with him was one of life and peace." Amen.
